AIR PIX FLIGHT FAQSUpdated 2 years ago

Why does my AIR PIX sometimes bounce around instead of fly steady?

Sometimes after a crash or hard fall the sensors need to be re-set.  Simply go back to the AirSelfie app's home screen and re-calibrate your AIR PIX.  Re-calibrating it will reset the flight sensor and help ensure a steady flight.

Other times, If you are flying your AIR PIX over furniture (a table, couch or chair) this too can cause the AIR PIX to fly unsteady.  For best results fly your AIR PIX over an open flat surface.  Ideally fly your AIR PIX at least 4 to 5 feet off the ground.  If it gets too close to the ground or table the air flow from its propellers can cause it to bounce around, remember the AIR PIX only weighs about 2oz (56.7gm).

How does AutoFly work?

In AutoFly mode your AIR PIX is in a pre-programmed flight mode.  In AutoFly mode your AIR PIX is using facial detection to detect your face.  It is looking to lock in on your forehead, eyes and chin.  Once it locks in on your face it will activate the camera to start capturing photos or a video.   This pre-programmed flight takes approximately 12-15 seconds.  It is important to toss the AIR PIX out in front of you when launching it and not up as you want it to lock in on your face immediately during this timed sequence.  To ensure the AIR PIX can quickly recognize a face, make sure you are in a well-lit area.  If you have too much light behind you (a lamp, a sunny window) this light will cast a shadow around your head and make it very difficult for the AIR PIX to find a face.   If you are wearing a hat it may be blocking your forehead, this too can sometimes make it difficult for the AIR PIX to lock in on your face.

Is the AIR PIX designed to fly both indoors and outdoors?

Yes, by selecting this   blobid0.jpg    button you can toggle between indoor and outdoor flying.

The motors are designed to operate a little slower when flying indoors.

How do I activate  hand gestures to control my AIR PIX without using the AirSelfie app?

Turn on your AIR PIX. After turning your AIR PIX on and seeing the rapidly blinking blue light, double click the power button.  You will see the blue light go from a rapid flash to a slightly slower flash.  The motors will start to turn, now gently toss your AIR PIX out in front of you.  It will fly approximately 8 feet away from you and you will see the blue light stop flashing.  The AIR PIX is now trying to locate your face.  Once it locks in using its facial recognition software the blue light will flash twice, now you can start flying using hand gestures.

TIP --The AIR PIX facial recognition software is programmed to lock in on a specific area next to the left and right side of your head, this is where it is looking for hand gestures.      If you can imagine 2 square boxes on either side of your head next to your ears, this is the target zone for the camera.

To make the AIR PIX fly to the right or left:

With your hands open and facing the AIR PIX, raise them on either side of your head to about ear level, placing them in the imaginary box on the left and right side of your head.  Keeping your hands within the box, slowly raise just your right hand about 4 inches (10cm) straight up, the AIR PIX should respond by flying to the left.  Now bring you right hand back next to your ear and raise your left hand, the AIR PIX should respond by flying to the right.

To activate video:

Raise your left hand up, again with your hand open and facing the AIR PIX, slowly make a fist with your hand, you should see the blue light go off on the AIR PIX, you can drop your hand.  When the blue light is off it is in video mode.  To stop capturing video, raise your left hand and once again slowly make a fist, keeping your hand in the imaginary box.  The “closed fist” hand gesture will turn the video off and you should see the blue light come back on.

 To capture a picture:

Raise your right hand up, with your hand open and facing the AIR PIX, slowly make a fist.  Drop your hand, you should see the blue light flash rapidly, it is capturing a photo while in this rapid flash pattern.

To get the AIR PIX to fly back to you:

With both hands next to your head in the “imaginary boxes” palms open and facing the AIR PIX, slowly lower both hands out of the box.  It is VERY important to keep your hands from falling forward as you lower them.  As you lower them think of them as being pressed up against a pain of glass.  The AIR PIX will recognize this as the “return gesture” and fly back to you.  Place your hand out to catch the AIR PIX.  The motors will slowly stop.  If you want them to stop immediately just simply flip the AIR PIX over, this movement stops the AIR PIX motors.

NOTE – When in gesture control mode the AIR PIX will always maintain the same distance away from you moving away as you walk closer to it and following you if you walk away from it.   You can bring the AIR PIX back by using the landing gesture or wave your right hand up and down in front of your face to cut the connection between you and the AIR PIX.  Once the connection is broken the AIR PIX will no longer fly away from you and you can grab it out of the air and flip it over to stop the motors.
